Rebar Revisited

Rebar is a catchy little acronym short for reinforcing bar, and is also know an reinforcing steel and reinforcement steel. The most common forms of rebar are as a steel bar or mesh of steel wires.

Rebar is a ubiquitous component in modern structures, playing a hidden but critical role in the reinforcement of concrete and masonry structures. The rebar both strengthens and holds the concrete in compression, which especially considering its premier position in modern construction, has a surprisingly low tensile strength (the maximum stress a material can withstand being stretched or pulled before failing).
